ALGUNOS ASPECTOS BIOECOLÓGICOS DE Porthidium lansbergii rozei PETERS 1968 (SERPENTES: VIPERIDAE) EN EL NORESTE DE LA PENINSULA DE ARAYA, ESTADO SUCRE, VENEZUELA

Resumen

Se reporta la colecta de dos ejemplares vivos de Porthidium lansbergii rozei en septiembre de 1997 en la Península de Araya, estado Sucre, Venezuela. Ambos ejemplares, un macho juvenil y una hembra adulta, presentan las características propias de la especie: cabeza  triangular, hocico notablemente terminado en punta (canthus agudo), ojos pardos con pupilas verticales y cuerpo grueso ligeramente comprimido a nivel lateral, una coloración pardo amarillenta en el juvenil y una tonalidad más oscura en el adulto. Este hallazgo representa el segundo registro documentado de dicha especie en el estado y corrobora los señalamientos de Roze (1966), Lancini (1986) y Mijares-Urrutia y Arends (2000) sobre la distribución de la especie en zonas xerofíticas y semixerofíticas del norte de Venezuela.

abstract

This paper reports the collection of two live specimens of Porthidium lansbergii rozei in the Araya peninsula, state of Sucre, Venezuela in September 1997. Both specimens, a juvenile male and an adult female, feature the distinct characteristics of the species: a triangular head ending in a pronounced spout (acute rostral), brown eyes with vertical pupils, and a heavy body lightly flattened laterally and marked with a yellowish brown in the juvenile that takes on a darker hue in the adult. This is the second documented finding of this species in the state, and corroborates the assertion by Roze (1966), Lancini (1986), and Mijares-Urrutia and Arends (2000) regarding its distribution throughout xerophytic areas in northern Venezuela.
