ABSTRACT
The pruning of paprika can be an alternative to the renewal of productive tissue or to increase yields. In order to assess the benefits of the severe pruning in the production of paprika (Capsicum annuum) hybrid Crusader, was carried out a test in the sector the planks, Venezuela Zamora municipality. Four months old plants were pruned to an average height of 15 cm after a harvest. After pruning, plants were fertilized through the system of irrigation applied in total 69.34 kg.ha-1 of N, 7.2 kg.ha-
1 P and 42.16 kg.ha-1 K for 39 days. Found that the plants reached a height of 62 cm. However, the size of the fruit and mass was lower than the standards identified by the commercial house of the hybrid and the yield was also lower in relation to the first harvest (without pruning). Even though empirically ascertained the pruning utility to extend the harvest cycle, it is recommended to efficient handling of agricultural work especially fertilization, as well as the fruit removal for larger fruits.
